The U.S. economy has been terrific over the last couple years as confirmed by strong GDP growth of 2.9% and 2.2% in 2018 and 2017 respectively. While it is not the first time we have experienced these growth rates in our country, what does seem to be unique is the growth has been very strong in all the markets that ESI serves.
ESI provides geosynthetic liners and their installation to five primary industries – power (coal ash containment), solid waste (landfills), oil & gas (pond linings for natural gas storage, frac pits and similar applications), mining (tailing ponds) and water (aqua/agriculture pond linings). We have seen strong demand for geosynthetic liners and installation among all these industries, with the strongest demand in the power, oil & gas, and the mining industries in particular. Recent demand levels for liner materials and installation services has been challenging for the industry to meet, and we saw many 2018 projects delayed due to material and labor shortages – especially projects that were planned later in the construction season when demand is typically strongest.
Recently, Waste360 published an article discussing the strong demand for geosynthetics overall and its impact on the solid waste industry. The article featured quotes from ESI personnel and can be read by clicking on this link.
ESI would like to communicate our perspective so to encourage customers to procure their geosynthetic liner materials and schedule their labor for installation as soon as possible. Foresight and planning are the best antidotes to ensure your project will be completed within the 2019 construction season.
We wish the industry a very safe and successful construction season.
