An Iowa State graduate student is experimenting with using recycled plastic to 3D print geogrids.
Araz Hasheminezhad, a civil engineering graduate student with Iowa State University’s Program for Sustainable Pavement Engineering, developed the product to improve granular road performance and longevity in the state.
Hasheminezhad and other researchers are monitoring a field performance of a full-scale composite geosynthetic system in Buchanan County, Iowa. The system includes the geogrid, bonded to a nonwoven geotextile. The results have so far been promising, the researchers say.
